Hello all,

Has anybody taken a close look at this diet? http://hcgforweightloss.org/hcg-diet-plan.html

It's a zero fat severe caloric intake diet and I have a new patient who just started the diet last week.

She has lost 10 pounds and needs to lose 100 more, but is happy and motivated. I did not want to burst her bubble.

Any comments or insights would be welcome.

I've heard a lot about it, a lot of people seem to like it but it doesn't sound very healthy to me. It's just another one of those diets that's going to fail as soon as you stop because I don't think it's a way of eating you can sustain for life. There's a whole forum on the HCG diet over at Low Carb Friends. http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/hcg-diets/

It seems like another diet built to quell the fear of people who are still scared of dietary fat. Yes, it is low carb, but for some reason, it is also low fat. If you look into how biology works, you will find out that dietary fat has no effect on your body's fat storage. Also, counting calories only leaves you hungry. It has nothing scientific to do with weight.

Hmmmm....shades of KimKins maybe........

I see they don't mention that some of the rapid weight loss might just be from your hair falling out from nutrient deficiency - LOL.

I wouldn't dismiss it so quickly, but I wouldn't call it a diet either. It's more like a temporary shock treatment using the HCG hormone to support calorie restriction.

Some people are reporting good results. You can get the same results with time doing low carb, but some people are more impatient. It's not a long-term thing.

She's getting adequate fat from dissolving adipose tissue.

Rob wolf mentioned in jimmy's podcast that under right circumstances your body burning stored fat makes your diet high fat. Could be the same thing. Not sure about the hcg hormone, but I remember severe fat and calorie restriction during kimkins and wasn't healthy, but we were losing like crazy. Weight, hair and our health.

I was intrigued by it about 6 months ago and tried it. Worked so well it was scarey. Did 3 weeks and then went back to my low carb diet.
(was not the homeopathic stuff. Got it from Canada. Even tested it on a pregnancy test stick for potency)

Thanks Coach Sally.

Why did you stop if it worked so well?

I used the script hCG sublingually and lost 30 lbs in 50 days (my LAST 30 lbs so I hit goal). It was very easy! I gained about 13 back over a 7 month period and decided to do another round and it was pure torture. I was hungy all the time and stopped losing after the first week (but I lost 9lbs that first week). You cannot cheat AT ALL! It does have a Kimkins ring to it (yep did that too) but this loss was faster. Now I am trying the LR diet/Paleo to maintain and to squash my carb cravings. 2 days in and it is wonderful! If anyone needs info on hCG let me know!
