OK, I'm sure lots of us had never heard of Atkins 'Fat-Fast', even though it's right in the text of DANDR [pages 272-274 in my paperback copy
]. Atkins mainly used it as a tool to get folks into ketosis who were having a very difficult time getting started with weight loss or hopelessly stalled. First off, it's not for everyone and it's not the answer to everything! It is a tool and it is meant for the short term, not the long term.
What exactly is the 'Atkins Fat-Fast'? I'm glad you asked! It is basically five 'feedings' daily of 200 calories each at 90% fat
. Obviously the food choices are limited to foods with high fat content. Dr. Atkins original 'Fat-Fast' in DANDR consisted of a list of eight foods! Wow, you say! That list has been tweaked, expanded, toyed with and added to by individuals over the years. So I'm going to give you a few links to read some more about this plan. There are tons more links on the intarweb if you choose to do additional research, which I highly recommend.
Here's a very thorough article by Di Bauer of CarbSmart
that goes quite in depth about the FF and gives lots of variations on the foods that have worked for others.
Here's a blog entry by Jimmy Moore about his take on Dr. Salerno's 'Fat-Fast'
. Everyone should read this as Jimmy has a great perspective on the FF. Here's a second blog entry by Jimmy that gives more FF info
OK, that's enough reading to get everyone started if you're at all interested in knowing what the 'Fat-Fast' (FF) is all about.
I made plans last year to start the FF the first of January this year. I started yesterday, Sunday, January 4, 2008. I'm undecided at this point how long I will stay on it, but I plan to update my FF Chronicles in this thread. So, please join in the discussion, ask questions and make comments. Let's all learn together!
