NATURE'S BEST ISOPURE ZERO CARB
Hey everyone,
I have been looking around the posts here of different products and have found the information very helpful.
My son brought a drink home for me to try.
ISOPURE ZERO CARB, by Nature's Best.
The back of the bottle says:
160 Calories
0g Fat
0g Total Carbohydrate
0g Sugars
40g Protein
55mg Calcium
80mg Sodium
45mg Potassium
Other ingredients list is: filter walter, ion-exchanged whey, protein isolate, natural and artifical flavors, malic acid, sucralose, polysorbate 80.
Any thoughts on this product? With sucralose being listed, is it a no-no? I like that the drink is aspartame free.
Right now I drink unsweet tea in the mornings and from the afternoon on, only water. It would be nice to find some different, maybe a little more refreshing to drink after a work out (such as mine are right now lol).
I'm still doing induction and doing well and I just drank about half the bottle of this. The flavor I have is Grape Frost and it's wasn't too bad. I hope I didn't just mess up my progress.
I would appreciate any feedback from the awesome and knowledgable members here. Thanks so much,
CJ

RE: NATURE'S BEST ISOPURE ZERO CARB
Sounds like a great kid!
Yeah, mine stayed in the fridge for months before I forced myself to finish it. weird.
OK sucralose…This is a very complicated subject. Unlike aspartame, I've never seen ANYTHING that shows sucralose specifically is an unhealthy choice as an artificial sweetener, but there is some evidence that says ANY artificial sweetener is not a good idea.
Eating artificial sweeteners can cause the body to expect something sweet which will cause an anticipatory release of insulin in order to counteract the onslaught of sugar that never arrives. This insulin can cause normal blood sugar to drop too low which then creates a craving for carbs...actually, technically it would create an actual biological NEED for carbs in order to bring blood sugar back up. Often this causes us to crave another diet soda…or worse. It seems different people are effected by this in different degrees.
The other thing I read once was a study that showed a link between diet soda consumption and obesity. Apparently, the more fat you are, the more diet soda you are likely to consume. In contrast, thin people usually just have 1 if any. It seems that the fattest of us tend to be the most likely to get stuck on the cycle I just mentioned (in the above paragraph) with the diet soda perpetually creating cravings for itself...and perhaps anything else around that's sweet. It's likely that this is exactly why overweight people get "addicted" to diet soda. The diet soda causes perpetual insulin/blood sugar fluctuations. The best thing that could happen from someone effected like this is the person walks around with a chronic diet soda addiction and higher than necessary insulin levels. That alone would probably be worth limiting all artificial sweeteners. Losing weight is hard enough.
I'm not a purest. I'm drinking a Sprite Zero as I type this, but I really need to stop it. I KNOW with absolute certainty that I eat more food in general when it's sweetened. For example, if I drink my coffee sweetened, I'll have twice as much than if I don't have it sweetened. If I have bbq brisket with sugar free bbq sauce, I will eat a lot more than if I eat it without. Probably the most obvious example of this is cheese cake. Cheese cake is basically just sweetened baked cream cheese. Even if I wasn’t hungry, I could eat half a low carb cheese cake in one sitting if I didn’t stop myself, but it's hard to get down more than about 2 tablespoons of cream cheese when it's plain cream cheese.
So yeah, it's not that sucralose is a bad artificial sweetener. It's more than artificial sweeteners in general should probably be limited in most overweight people... or at least in me.

RE: NATURE'S BEST ISOPURE ZERO CARB
Hogsfan,
Thanks for taking the time write and explain the effects of artificial sweeteners.
Back in the mid-nineties I started drinking diet coke and within no time had an addiction of 1 1/2 to 2 2-liters a day. I had terrible headaches from it and reflux. It was aweful breaking that cycle and I went without drinking any carbinated beverages, diet or otherwise for over 10 years. I will occasionally have diet cola type drink (less than 5 per year or so) if that's the only choice. If there's water, I'll just drink that.
So, with that said, what you are outlineing makes perfect sense to me and my experience. For some reason I only related it to aspartame and not all artifical sweeteners. This opens my eyes to think otherwise.
Note, I'm on day 10 of induction. I had one slip about day 3 purely related to old habits and not thinking about what was I putting in my mouth. As far as cravings, not bad at all...... until today that is. Today has been a battle. Could be coincidental and just part of it for where I'm at, but interesting - it's the day after having a half bottle of that drink.
Thanks again for your willingness of spending the time and effort to share. I really do appreciate it. I'm trying to learn and use the knowledge of so many here.
Oh, and yeah, he's a pretty good young man/son (22 yrs old) if I say so myself. Nothing would please him more than to see me reach my goal and keep it off.

For some reason, I totally missed this the other day. Just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you.
I'm glad it helped. Writing it out helped me to sort out my thoughts so thanks for asking.

RE: NATURE'S BEST ISOPURE ZERO CARB
Thanks LindaSue...yes, since women have lower lean body mass (ex: muscle), their needs are less so having 1/2 a bottle especially after a workout and the rest on another day is ideal. Of course there are exceptions but ingesting the whole 40g of liquid protein can bloat some.
Remember the source of Isopure protein is designed to be absorbed quickly so it is an ideal post-workout protein choice.

Can you clarify what your last sentence meant? I didn't quite understand it. Why can women have the bottle if their protein requirement is lower?
I think he meant to say "Women can have half the bottle..."

Here a a couple of drinks that you might want to look at:
1. SoBe LIfewater -- very low carbs, calories -sweetened with Pure Via (Erythritol - Stevia) Costco near me sells this by the case in three flavors. Here is a link to the nutritional information for one flavor:
http://pepsiproductfacts.com/infobyprodu...Pear-O+Cal
I kind of like the taste of this one but it's very sweet
2 Labrada Lean Body On the Go - a protean drink without sugar sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame potassium. The full nutritional information is available at the following link: Scroll down to see everything. If you recite the ingredient list five times, you might burn more calories than in your daily exercise routine.

I've only tried the chocolate flavor and wasn't impressed. Your taste may be different from mine, however.

I was in Target today. The one near me was selling individual bottles of SoBe and they had about a half dozen flavors.
Be careful, however, if you want to try this product. Look for the bottles that say "0 calories naturally sweetened". Many of the flavors that I saw at Target were the 40 calorie version that contains sugar.
