Hi everyone, I entered a contest where I could have a chance to record with Yo-Yo Ma. I finally entered the piece and it is awful. I had to record this piece with a Yo-Yo Ma recording ( Dona Nobis Pacem ). I couldn't get it synched. The name of the counter melody, my composition is " Happy are the Peace Makers". I am playing the flute. There are 2 different tempos so I contrast that with the fact that our desire for peace is a little out of synch:cool:Well, anyway, the idea is to get a bunch of votes. So I am begging y'all. Please vote for me here http://www.indabamusic.com/submissions/show/4682 ...I think. This was such a difficult task. So I hope this works.

Mary, I listened to your submission this morning and was impressed. You are a very talented musician and writer and should be proud. The piece is very peaceful and works with the title, even though the end product may not have been to your liking. I would vote for you but could not find the place to cast my vote. Great job...I'm quite the music aficionado.

Geez, thanks you guys. I was laying in bed and began to think. Hey, 12:00 PM on Dec 31st doesn't start until noon today EST. Duh, must be that low carb diet I've been on lately. The flute and the cello are not synched together so that it why there is a long period of time where the flute stops playing. If the 2 instruments had been synched they would have ended together. Thanks for the compliments BTW.

Yeah, Jimmy, when I got up this morning my husband greated me with a kiss and told me I was in 24th place. I am not happy with the recording of my submission. It sounds very nice when it is actually synched correctly with the cello. Also this was going to be a trio instead of a duet. It was to have a flute, clarinet and the cello. So there is more to this composition than what you hear. The contestant who is number one is also a flutist. I am familiar with her, actually.

I can't thank you all enough for your support. The next few days will be intense indeed.

There is more to this story. Back in 1998 Yo-yo Ma was interviewed in a magazine. At the end of the interview was the announcement that Yo-Yo would answer one letter from a reader. I knew that the only way to have the chance to have him write me was for me to first write him. I asked him a question about teaching but not without telling him about my flute choirs and jazz band. Well, several months later there was a letter in my mail box from him. I was the one and only letter that he took the time to answer. I later sent him a thank-you card with the picture of a little black girl playing the flute. She was wearing a watch and was thinking about an ice cream cone.

He is such a genuine human being which makes him an incredible musician. So, when I heard about the contest I couldn't help but think that this could come around full circle. I look forward to asking him if my name sounded familiar to him. Also, I will complete this arrangement by performing it at my student's recital. I am going to fight hard with this and i will make the most of what will be...thanks again for your support.

There are a lotta really good counter-melodies entered in this contest. Whoever wins will have an incredible opportunity ahead of them AND, I think that Mr Ma will have an incredible opportunity as well. Again, having this site and other sites like it has contributed greatly to where I am now. So I cannot thank you all enough.

You know what, I just listened to the guy who is #1 so far and he is very good. Hopefully when I get another chance I will be able to take more time to plan and do the arrangement.
