HELP! ANYBODY KNOW OF UNCURED BACON MADE WITHOUT SUGAR????

Expert Low-Carber

IF ANYBODY HERE KNOWS WHERE TO FIND UNCURED BACON MADE WITHOUT SUGAR, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! LOVE THE BACON, AND CAN FIND UNCURED BUT NOT WITHOUT SUGAR USED IN CURING PROCESS. I KNOW YOU ALL (OR A LOT OF PEOPLE) EAT IT ANYWAY, BUT I NOTICE IT MAKES ME WANT SWEET. I NEVER WANT SWEETS, AND SINCE I ATE BACON THE PAST FEW DAYS, I CRAVED SOMETHING SWEET.

IF ANYONE KNOWS A BRAND I COULD ORDER, I WOULD BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!

Charles says he buys the Hormel brand of uncured bacon at WalMart...but I checked at two different local WMs and they did not have anything and the meat folks looked at me like I was some kind of idiot.

When in doubt....add butter!

I use the Oscar Mayer Natural Bacon .... smoked/uncured/no nitrite/no nitrate/...... very low carbs, 6 g protein per 2 slices.

It's in a yellow pkg. with blue stripe and red Oscar Mayer logo. I buy it at our local HEB.... a TX grocery chain, but I'm sure it's available elsewhere.

THANKS GUYS! (AND GALS)

THE THING IS, I CAN EASILY FIND UNCURED BACON--WHAT I WANT IS UNCURED BACON WITHOUT SUGAR. ALL OF IT IS MADE WITH SUGAR EVEN IF UNCURED....

Do you live in an area with a Trader Joe's? I know they have uncured bacon but not sure about one without sugar. Have to check the next time I go.

It is ALL about the insulin. Everyone knows that but 'can't we all get along' Ornish. Atkins got it. Ornish doesn't have a clue.

Don't let the small amount of sugar using in the preservation process scare you away. Even my uncured has turbinado sugar, but there is nothing sweet there and the curing solution is usually disolved in the cooking process. My fat back is sat-cured but the salt all stays in the pan when I heat the fat. I'm pretty sure the sugar-cured variety would function very similarly.

I have also found uncured bacon, both pork and beef at Whole Foods. If you have one of these stores or similar, you might check there. Those with butchers shoulld be able to find it.

Charles

tonight will be my first very low carb run as i am about to get my triathlon training underway for next years season. i am starting off very slow as i am coming off of a five year layoff from my last tri.

i figured today was the day as i turned forty today.
does this mean i will be in the old man class next year (40-44 age group) just like you. lol

Laugh if you want but I find that the 40-44 class is faster than the 35-39 group. Distance runners only seem to get faster with age. I thought maybe I would do better at distance events when I moved up to the 40-year olds but I was wrong!

i wasn"t really laughing, just a little joke
i went to a triathlon on saturday and the guy who won the overall by more than eight minutes was 44 years old and he was smokin fast.
i on the other hand am smoldering slow.

It says.... "Not a significant source of dietary fiber, sugars, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron".

I guess the EVAPORATED CANE JUICE is the sugar? I think it's so minimal that it shouldn't impact your LC WOE, but maybe I'm wrong. Let me know if you find any w/o Sugar. thanks.

Kathy,

I saw two brands listed once on some low carb site. Cannot of course remember where or what. Looked today and couldn't find anything.

When you say no sugars added, Kim, does that mean that it contains no sugar at all?? Everyone who recommended things still didn't get that I meant NO sugar. That's why I have stopped getting the bacon for us. I'll check for that brand on-line. Thanks!

Gwaltney has a terrific thick-sliced bacon that does not have sugar listed in the ingredients and a "no sugar" statement on the front. We used to be able to get it at our local WalMart, but in past months they have quit carrying it. You may be one of the lucky ones to get this in your local store.

Never heard of that brand. What state do you live in, assuming you live in the United States?

I found a picture of the Gwaltney, but couldn't see an ingredient list, nor can I figure out how to buy it. do you have any ideas? I live in San Francisco...

I've seen the Gwaltney sugar free bacon here in Houston too on occasion but nobody seems to carry it all the time.

I live in north central Texas. I emailed the company to ask if they have a list of retailers in my area, but I haven't heard back from them yet.
