My low carb weight loss.

Senior Low-Carber

It was Listening to Jimmy talking to Dr Dalhqvist at the end of January last year that I looked up her website and thought that looks easy. I think I could do that.

this is what I look like then.

and this is July 2008.

I haven't lost any more weight but more importantly I haven't regained it because I'm sticking to her plan more or less (a bit more red wine has sneaked in but not a lot)
Listening to Gary Taubes Berkeley lecture and reading GCBC or The Diet Delusion as it is called in the UK made me understand more why Dr Dahlqvist was quite right.

I think keeping in touch with Jimmy's podcasts also keeps you interested and up to scratch.

NOTE: The link is in Swedish. FYI! Google Translate makes a reasonable job of reading Swedish Websites. Some of the translations are very amusing but you have to be aware that Swedes are a lot more outspoken than is common on USA/UK websites, they seem to tolerate more swearing than we do online.

Here is an example translation from a Swedish website. It's from a blog poster reporting on attending one of Dr Dahlqvist's lectures.

I keep my fingers crossed that the message must go forward and land where it belongs. That it is finally going to take a screw. That change can begin.

Where in Smedjebacken yesterday and listened to Annika Dahlqvist. A half hour before the hall was already half full. Sex lasted far out on the street. They had to close the door and check out people in the end, it was not getting more. It erupted UPROAR and quarreling at the door, several angry people wanted prompt and did not. Annika was great, she told in a clear and upright manner as the entire audience took strong impression. There was not an ounce of aggression, so she called aggressive? It is really rude to say it. But perhaps it may be the opposite effect, people running bone of themselves to listen to her. It is seldom we see so many people to lecture in these areas - I do indeed."

Comes to something when people are fighting to get into lectures about the benefits of saturated fat and low carbohydrate eating.

Well, autotranslating do make some funny mistakes. Just to let you know, so you won't get a too funny idea about us swedes and what we do at lectures ... "Sex lasted far out on the street" Here the translation-programme can't differ between Kn - sex, meaning gender, and Kn - the que/line, it translated into the wrong one.
And when something is taking screw in swedish, it means more like taking off... And running bone is better understood as running their legs of, I guess.

THANKS for the translation, greenworm! It is HILARIOUS sometimes to read those translations. I bet you guys get the same thing when you translate things like my blog with my American idiosyncrasies.

Lookin' GOOOOOD!!!!!

Sugar is the enemy; fat is my friend. The only bad fats are artificial fats.
Low Fat & Fat Free -- tastes bad, bad for you.

I think you are totally wrong on the fat issue.
I think one of the reasons why Dr Dahlqvist's plan works so well for so many people in Sweden is precisely because the calories lost by reducing carbohydrate intake are replaced with calories from natural saturated fats. So it is LCHF LOW Carb HIGH Fat

Annika also suggests that BEFORE reducing the carbs you increase your fat intake, ie move to Coconut oil, BUTTER, LARD etc first so your brain is ready for the change to fat burning rather than carb burning.

Indeed many people in Poland follow The Optimal Diet which is a very high fat diet low carb diet. I think problems arise when people stall on low carb they go back to low carb but with even lower calories and this puts their body into starvation mode when just looking at food seems to increase weight. Contrary to what you might expect increasing natural saturated fat intake increases satiety (makes you feel you need less food) and because your body is not in starvation mode, enables the burning of stored fats as well as the fats in the diet.

this site will help you understand the problems that arise when we consume too much inflammatory omega 6 rather than natural saturated fats.

I took that to mean reduce body fat, not to reduce dietary fat.

I took that to mean reduce dietary fat, not reduce body fat.

I think you may be right.
I may have misread it as meaning reducing both dietary carbohydrates and dietary fat.
Of course reducing carbohydrates will reduce body fat and that is probably what James Andre meant rather than suggesting a low carb, low fat diet is best.
I'm sorry if my reply upset him.

Hi,

Thank you everyone for the useful information.

Not necessarily. I certainly never counted calories not did I ever go hungry. I just stopped eating the foods that stimulate hunger cravings. I didn't understand previously that wheat can be addictive and that by eliminating all wheat products I would be able to break this addiction and not have to think about food all the time.

I think that now I don't eat as many calories as I did previously but that isn't because I am trying to reduce my calorie intake it is simply because I don't raid the fridge before bedtime or between meals because I'm not hungry and thus don't feel the need to.

Quote:..... walking or exercising as much as you can, along with dieting, you need to go for regular exercises.......
I suffer from the late effects of polio and for me exercising and walking simply make my condition worse and lead to greater loss of function. Because of this mantra about exercise being linked to weight loss I used to think that I was fat simply because I couldn't exercise. The eating plan I followed isn't so much a diet but a way of eating for life. I lost 2.25lbs a week by sticking to it and I haven't regained weight any weight over the last 9months I've been not so actively seeking weight loss.
Tom Naughton has an amusing take on Tall Tales About Exercise

Please don't think I'm against exercise, it's certainly excellent for the brain and the heart and it is right to encourage everyone to get regular exercise but not as a way of losing weight.

Exercise is for heart and brain health, when you have stopped craving carbs and have lost weight you will, if my example is anything to go by, find you are more active and mobile as a result of losing weight and not eating those foods that make you hungry and tired.
