Eggs Have Carbs!

Not many--only .5 per egg, and not likely enough to derail me, but dang! I'd have sworn I read the Atkins book carefully, but when I began to stall after the first little bit of wt loss, I went back and re-read. Just goes to show that when I THINK I know something, my mind just glosses right over what's actually there.

Hmph. Serves me right.

I still love eggs and plan to eat them, but now my carb count will be a little more, ahem, accurate!

Jan, everything has carbs. Carbs exist in life just like germs. What is important is to not allow carbs to become problematic.

Carbs...like germs...eeeeeeew. Yes, I know they're a ubiquitous fact of life...it just surprised me to discover how much an egg has, comparatively speaking.

Girl, I basically don't even count carbs anymore. I just know what foods are low in carbs and plan my menus arund them. I prefer eating lotsa protein and fats and that is where I start. Then I add veggies etc. as I feel necessary. I will get my carbs but don't care how many because it will never be a high amount.

Surprise surprise! Yes Virginia, eggs do have carbs, but fortunately not many. At .5 per egg, if you eat 10 eggs a day, that is only 5 carbs. I will go through periods when I eat a lot of eggs, but the most I will usually eat is 6 eggs in one day. For me, it is not usually the eggs but what I add to the eggs that can get me in trouble.

I'm still learning what has carbs and how many are in the more carb-dense veggies...but one of these days I want to eliminate counting anything. I'd like to just eat what I know is good for me, and get ON with my life!

I never count carbs. I know the good food from the bad and still lose weight. You just have to make sure that what you eat is good carbs.

Even meat has trace carbs. Just not enough to bother counting.

awwwww... get over it! LOL I never count ANYthing as less than 1 carb. I'd rather overestimate than under-

and as for "germs"... well...
A little extra protein. hehe

It's not a lot but a 4 egg omlette with bacon, sausage and cheese has about 3 carbs. Everything in it has trace carbs and they add up, but you shouldn't be worrying about eggs because they aren't going to make much of a difference. If you ate a mostly egg diet with 3 eggs per meal times 3 meals a day, you are only getting 4.5 carbs per day from the eggs. American cheese has 1 carb per slice and many lunch meats have at least one carb per slice. If you're not careful, sausage can get you because of the hidden carbs in some brands. Ranch dressing is what usually sneaks up on me. You have to watch out for hidden carbs in all processed foods, and you especially have to watch the portion size on the label. Stay with whole, unprocessed foods and counting carbs will be much easier.
