Hey everyone

Yeah it is so great to be back. We had a great group of people in the march madness group on the old board so I thought I would start a May Madness thread on the hope that the oldies would recognise it and join and maybe some new people will like the look of it.

For May our challenge is to be cheat free for May. Thats only 31 days. The requirements for this challenge are:
Introduce yourself
Goal for May
Long Term Goal
Post everyday
Be cheat free for may!!!!

I will go first. My name is Raewyn. I was seenthelight on the other board however I am now merging all my usernames together. I live in Texas although I am from New Zealand originally. I have been low carbing since june of last year after an infamous article in WW mag and then moved over to jimmys forum in Oct last year. I lost 45 pounds in 3 months and went from 235 pounds to 190lbs. I have just got back from holiday and I am 200.2. Yes out of onderland. I have been cheat free for today. I am hoping to resist carbs tonight and get the first day out the way. I have the biggest carby headache right now and can't wait to get over the carb withdrawals. My goal for may is to get into the 180's. My long term goal is to get to 155.

This challenge will start on the first of may. So on the first of may post startweights.

Can't wait to see everyone again. It has been a crazy few weeks.

Take care
Raewyn

Hi Raewyn,

Count me in! I am ready to get back to onederland!

My name is Robin. I am 46 and married to my best friend. I have been doing low carb since 7/30/07. At that time I weighed 248. I lost 53 lbs (195) and then stalled just before Christmas . . . . since February I have been up and down between 200-206.

My goal for May is to lose 10 lbs. My long term goal is to weigh 150 lbs (really 148 - for a weight loss of 100 lbs!) altho I may revise that lower as I get closer.

Thank you so much for starting this challenge again!

I'd like to join also.

I've removed 20kg/45 pounds over the last year, 10kg/22 pounds since the first of the year. Following low-carb/Atkins for the last 2 months or so after gradually decreasing my carbs over the last 6 months. I now keep carb level to under 30 net carbs.

Current weight: 104kg/229 pounds
May Goal: 100kg/220 pounds
Long Term Goal: 70kg/154 pounds

It's good to be here!

Yippee, we are back!
Definitely count me in for the challenge!

Introduce yourself - i am rene (aka moofie). i have lc a few times over the years, but never able to maintain it. i re-committed after the WWorld article last spring, and lost 50lbs "over there" - had some increasing medical issues that alarmed me, so i moved to LLVLC in september. since then i've lost another 25lbs. it's been slow going since the move, often discouraging, but i am not giving up. i know i did some metabolism damage on the other plan and i have to take it slow to make it work. currently i have been stuck in the same 6lb window, going up and down, for the past two months. it's making me crazy.

Goal for May - 5lbs - to get to 210

Long Term Goal - ultimately 175. but my first goal is to hit onderland, where i haven't been since high school...and to do it this summer.

Post everyday - i can do that!

Be cheat free for may!!!! - absolutely!

rene

Count me in, too!

Hi everyone, my name is Barbara, and I live in Vermont. I have been low carbing off and on since 2003; however, on March 10, 2008 I really buckled down. All the junk is out of the house, I joined LA Weight Loss (no, I do NOT follow their plan, just go there for the in-person accountability and weigh-in's, and I love it! They're very supportive!), and I hired a personal trainer. I work out with her twice a week, sometimes three times, and regardless I try to get 10,000 steps daily on my pedometer. My starting weight was 323 (only 2 lbs from my all time high of 325), and this morning I was at 304.4.

My goal for May is to lose a minimum of 15 lbs, and to exercise at least 3 times a week. I will keep track of food and exercise in my journal.

My long term goal (seriously) is to be able to stand in a normal position and not have my thighs touch. I don't know what weight that will be, but when I was young and thin, it was 130. That may or may not be reasonable at my age (52), but I'm going for it.

I will post everyday, and I WILL be cheat-free for the month of May!

Have a wonderful day, all!

Barbara

Hi everyone

Great to see you all. I was dreaming last night that no-one would join and I would be a loner by myself here. Silly insecurities and all. Moofie great to see you. To robin, kris and barbara this will be good month for getting to know you. I beleive that posting everyday even if it is just hi keeps us accountable so by the end of the month we should be best buddies.

Ok well post your start weights on thursday the 1st and shall we make weigh ins on thursdays just to keep it consistent.

take care
Raewyn

A NEW START. I WILL SUCCEED.

Hi, I'm Casey, also known as BlackPhase, and I'm a Carboholic.

Anyways, These are a great weigh (ha ha) to keep accountable and encouraged (as well as help others to be).
Raewyn, your monthly challenges are awesome! Sometimes dreams come true, and sometimes not! lol

My May Goal I am currently 195, it's to get down to 189! That was my all time low several years back before I screwed up and went on a nine month long out of control binge (where I shot up to 235 before it stopped).
If I can get down to my all time low I'll be thrilled!

Long Term Goal: 165. I'd like to get there by October 1 this year.

Hang in there everyone, we are all in this together!

Hi, I'm Paula and I'm new to the low carb forums. I'd like to join in with the May accountabilities, if I can??

I've been married for 19 years to Redd, we have two boys who are 9 & 8. My husband and I started a modified version of Adkins on January 7, 2008....why January 7th instead of the 1st??? Well, we had to wait until LSU won the National Championship and we had to drink beer and eat nachos during the game (LOL)

I have lost 23lbs so far, but have been at a month long stall, though I have lost inches. My usual weigh day is on Thursday, so I look forward to posting my stats.

My goal for May is to lose 2 pounds and get out of this stall. My eventual goal is to be at 150 or a size 16 jeans, whichever comes first.

I promise to post every day and I look forward to chatting with everyone.

Paula

I'll commit to being cheatfree in May. This is something I've been struggling with since I recommitted to eating lowcarb in November 06, so hopefully a challenge for a cheatfree month will jumpstart me towards success.

I'm not going to set any weight loss goals, as they might end up being counter-productive for me. If I do lose weight, that would be a great incentive to keep up the cheat free streak.

I'll also try something new for me and join LCMama in committing to post here every day.

It's all about progress, not perfection.

Paula: It's a pleasure to have you here. The more the better! You've come to the right place, Jimmy takes care of his community and we all support each other. Since I am on a modified plan myself, I am curious as you what yours is comprised of. Would you mind sharing? Way to go on your 23 lbs! That's pretty rapid in that time. I started in the same month as you, just 10 days later You're doing good when your body continues to lose inches, it may be your body readjusting with muscle, at least you are still going in the right direction. I had a stall a couple of months ago, it drove me nuts, so I can relate. You can do it with the 2 lbs. Just keep on going and stay strong. We are here for you.

Hi there,
My name is Mary and I live in Cary, NC. I am very new to the LLVLC board. Last year I lost 50 pounds using an online plan (Dr. Cohen's 1st Personal Diet). It was very low calorie and worked well while I was on it. I went on vacation in October and gained 7 pounds in 7 days. Then between the holidays and all the goodies every where that I turned, I managed to put back on almost 25 of the pounds

I came across Jimmy's blog, Living La Vida Low Carb and saw the book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" discussed so I bought it and read it. Then I pulled out my low carb diet books and have come to realize and accept that I have the type of body that does not handle carbs very well and that I have to learn a way of life that does not revolve around eating a bunch of carbs. So I am embracing the LLVLC philosophy. I have started recording my food at the Daily Plate and trying to limit carbs to 20g, plus 3 Satiatrims per day (which adds more carbs but that I think helps keep me satisfied).

My weight this morning was 155.2. My goal for May is to lose 10 pounds. My longterm goal is to get back down to 138 and stay there (a comfortable size 10 for me). I am very excited to be part of this challenge for May. It will be a challenge because I have two out of town trips planned. Tomorrow is a good-bye lunch for my boss and then I have two dinners with friends next week. I do great when I eat at home but all of the eating out gets me. LOL I also am having dinner with Jimmy and Christine here in Cary on Sunday night and I am really looking forward to that.

Any words of wisdom on all the eating out will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to getting to know all of you in the May Madness Challenge.

BlackPhase, we call it modified Adkins because we never really did any sort of an induction phase. We completely cut out all whites, white flour, white rice, white sugar, and we were/are eating meats, low starch veggies & fruits and lots of water (gosh, you could float a barge on what I drank!).

Then I read Protein Power for Life and we both agreed that we needed to up our protein requirements for each day. We printed out the charts and went from there.

Every couple of weeks, dh and I will split an apple or banana, we do eat berries and drink some dairy (mostly cream for me, nothing really for dh unless the urge strikes), I'll still eat a small square of the really fancy expensive free trade chocolate about once a week. I figure the carb grams are negligible (for me), and it keeps me from losing my mind!

We try to keep our carb counts between 20-30 per day. We actually began this low carb way of life in December when I read an article in Family Circle about keeping your carbs low, under 100/day and to use only whole grain sources. We figured we could do under 100 per day, and then it's just evolved from there. My sister in law had done Adkins a few years ago and I always thought under 20 was so restrictive, until I started doing it myself and realized it's not really restrictive at all! I wish I would have kept that darn article!

Well, since today is May 1st, I'll proudly proclaim that my beginning weight is:
174.6~~~~~~~~whoohoo, I'm finally out of the stall!

Should we also post our measurements?

Good luck everyone with no cheating!

Paula

Good morning all! I have a crazy busy day, so let me post my first official Thursday morning weight ~ 304.2

Question: for anyone using Satiatrim....I cannot stand the taste (only tried chocolate and berry so far; but I ordered a 27 pack, so have a lot to go through). Does anyone add anything to it, or have any tips for making it more palatable?

Will try to check in later...

Barbara

Welcome everyone. Well today is our first official weigh in.

Start weight 196.6
Goal for May 10lbs
End weight 186.6

I don't post my measurements but that is because I am a bit lazy. I think it is a great idea for those of you that do measure as it can help in a stall.

Keep up the good work everyone and I will try and do some more chatting a bit later. I got back from vacation just before the boards got up and running and still haven't caught up on everything.

Take care.

Good Morning and Happy May!!
Count me in my name is Chris; AKA sveeta. I comitted to low carb about the second week in March 2008. I have always been overweight since birth at almost 10 lbs. After over 15 years of doing the low fat thing and making all the "right" choices and constantly being hungry I gave up for a long time. The more I would choose what the nutritionist said the hungrier I would be one hour later, it was completely frustrating and demotivating. I feel like this is my last chance! I am 46 years old. Since I began about 6-7 weeks ago I have lost 15 lbs. Started at 272 and todday I am 257. The best part is I am hardly ever hungry in between meals. I love working out and I mix it up every day trying to stave off worlout boredom. I do yoga, pilates, weights and the treadmill. My goal for May is to release 10 lbs. My DH and I will be celebrating our 25 wedding anniversary on June 4 and I am going to buy a new bathing suit for our carribean trip AHHH Scary but I am going to do it. He is TOTALLY SUPPORTIVE and has joined me on this WOE.
Keep on keeping on everybody we can do this together.

Blessings! Chris
