Can anyone tell me off the top of their heads the brands names of sugar/honey/etc - free ham, sausage and bacon?

Also, are the nitrates in these products always bad for you? If low-carb diets are cancer protective, perhaps they are safer for us?????

Boar's Head makes some without sugar but not all of their meats are sugar free so you'll have to ask. I don't know anything about nitrates.

Hi SheRa,

There is a sugar free and nitrate free bacon put out by Applegate Farms. It's excellent.

Grassland has an all natural sugar free, nitrate free and MSG free Beef Bacon made from 100% beef but there is a little brown sugar. And they have Sugar Free Franks - these are nitrate, nitrite, msg free, gluten and sugar free! They also have Heritage Acres Pork Bacon Without Nitrate but again, there's a tad of maple syrup and turbinado sugar.

They also have Italian Beef Sausage, Polish Kielbasa Beef Sausage, Beef Sugar Free Garlic Franks and more.

You can buy their goodies off their web site at http://www.grasslandbeef.com/.

Applegate also makes a sugar free and nitrate free ham, Black Forest. It's very tasty.

I just checked their web site and saw that they now also make a no carb nitrate free dried sausage snack product that they call a "Joy Stick" that looks like its worth a try.

They have an on line store as well.

Check them out at http://www.applegatefarms.com/

Thanks for that. I'll be needing bacon soon and will look for that brand. I did find the ham previously mentioned as well. Very good.

Wow, I just noticed all the other good posts. I can see I'll need to do my shopping elsewhere. My store doesn't have much variety.

Incorrect!!! Evaporated cane juice is in all of the bacon. Plus, they even list 1 g of sugar under the nutritional info. Sorry to deliver the bad news I guess we have to keep looking.

Not true! ALL their bacon contains sweeteners. The one you're talking about contains evaporated cane juice...

She didn't claim that it was sugar free, just that it has no nitrates or nitrites.

Well, the name of the thread is "Sugar Free Ham and Bacon." Someone could easily be misled if they're not paying attention. Just wanted to make sure everyone could easily ascertain that this brand definitely contains SUGAR.

Another brand to avoid is Hormel Natural Choice. Their products also contain evaporated cane juice.
