OMG, have you SEEN this??

http://www.atkins.com/Products/Cuisine/Penne.aspx

Check the nutritional info! Enriched Semolina? Wheat Starch?

I think Doc Atkins is turning over in his grave!

I'm thoroughly shocked and dismayed by this.

I wonder if it's something like Dreamfields where the carbs magically don't count.

LindaSue, if you cook Dreamfields "al dente" they don't have many carbs (for some reason). However, if you overcook them or rehead them, they are just like regular pasta. I can't give you the source, but I did read this somewhere. I don't use it any more.

Have you read Jimmy's experiment with Dreamfields? It raised his blood sugar just as much as real pasta.

I was thinking of Jimmy's Dreamfields experiment when I read the info on the Atkin's Pasta.

I still can't believe they're touting Semolina!

I feel like I've been abandoned by someone I've trusted.

...sniff

This stuff has 19 carbs per 1/2 cup serving. Has anyone tried to only eat a half cup of penne pasta? Assuming a decent sized bowl would be 2 cups of pasta, that works out to 72 carbs, and that is before you add any sauce. Of course you have to take into account the 76 grams of fiber you would be consuming (scary thought). If any low carb food fell into the category of "not worth it," this would be it. That would assume of course, that this was really a low carb food (which it isn't).

Atkins Nutritionals abandoned us long before this stupid pasta. If I need pasta, I go to the Tofu Shiritake noodles. I hear some people complain they don't like them, but I don't have a complaint in the world - only a gazillion good things to say about them!

On my SouthBeach maintenance, I've allowed myself Dreamfields and have been fortunate. I have to remember portion-control...always difficult with pasta. Yeah, who can eat 1/2 cup???

Not only do I not like them, they make me sick!

Fake noodles/fake pasta are Frankenfood. I know that people sometimes try hard to mimic foods they have been used to and replace them with healthier versions, but I'm not convinced that it's OK to not look behind the curtain and only look at "net carbs" on a label.

Look at the experience Jimmy had with that pasta. There is more going on than just carbs/insulin. It's still Frankenfood.

I don't agree with everything Mat LaLonde says but he's right about eat real food.

Try a spaghetti squash and experiment.

I tried so hard to like them. I just can't get past the texture in my mouth. Ive bought them 3 different times, the last time I baked them hoping theyd get crispy or anything different, but no threw the whole pan of "lasagna out.
