Dr. Stephen Gullo, author of The Thin Commandments Diet, speaks very highly of GG Bran Crisp Bread as a good alternative for "something with a crunch" that is still low-carb. GG Bran Crisp Bread has 2 net carbs per serving. I've never seen it in the stores, but it could be in some health food stores I imagine. Anyone here ever try it? What's your take on it?
I tired it and was not impressed. Tried again a few months later to see if my tastebuds had changed but no doing.

If I want something low carb thats crispy tasting I would rather have a Ryvita.

Lynn, I guess when you go that low in carbs for something like the GG, you get something with very little taste as well.
It is definitly dry and crispy. My husband would say twigs and bark! Actually I really like it spread with cream cheese and topped with chopped green olives as a late night snack or appetizer. I have tried it crumbled in a bowl and topped with heavy cream and splenda and then microwaved it. Gave the illusion of a hot breakfast cereal...kinda like grape nuts but more "branny".

I like this as it does add lots of crunch, but it really isn't a "cracker" substitute if you are looking for something like cheese and crackers. It is much better for "spreadables". MMMM maybe some warm brie....
These "crackers" only work with something thick that will bind it together--such as cream cheese--which is the only topping I have found that will work with them. BTW, the nutrition info on these has changed over time. The last time I bought a package of these, which was fairly recent, the packaging said that each crispbread was 3 total carbs, all 3 being fiber. Therefore the net carb count would be zero. Currently the packaging--according to Netrition.com--reads as 7 total carbs, 5 of which are fiber, leaving 2 net carbs. I am confused as to why this has changed. Even so, 2 net carbs per crispbread is worth it if you love cream cheese. The two go great together.
I bought a pkg.........kinda like it. I heard that some people smear mustard on 2 slices then build a sandwich ham/cheese - whatever, then wrap up and put in fridge and the bread swells from the moisture in the mustard after a time. I imagine cream cheese and sf jelly or anything w/moisture would work. I haven't tried it yet, just heard about that trick.

I like it too..You can use it crushed for a breading....
Where are all you folks buying the GG Bran Crisp Bread? Are you finding it locally or ordering it somewhere? What is pricing on it?

I buy it at Whole Foods for $2.99 a pack. I eat it slathered with butter and some salt as my nightly snack. It is my only carb aside from vegetables and it helps me keep away from the "bad stuff".
I buy my GG Bran Crispbread directly from their website, brancrispbread.com for $65.00 per case. Its a great deal cause the shipping is included. The best price I have found. Price ends up being around $2.16 per package. I like to eat mine with cream cheese and lox with some onions.

Because the original labels were wrong. It was partly due to different label laws in Europe where the fiber is already deducted from the total carb count. I'm not sure why they're saying they have 7 carbs instead of 6 now unless they had them analyzed again or something.

Welcome to the forum, Paul.

Welcome to the forum, Paul.

I talked to a representative and they told me that the numbers also changed because the serving size changed. They changed the packages from 12 to 10 crackers but they kept the total weight of the package in tact. So basically, each cracker is slightly larger and the numbers got slightly bigger. Still tasty though and with 2 net carbs and all the fiber its hard to beat them.
That makes sense, i_love_fiber, and welcome to the forum.

Hey Ron! Long time no talk. Smile I love your avi BTW Wink

I do like the GG cracker too... the only place that I can get them though is to order them online. But they last a LONG time... I too like the idea of spreading some mustard or even mayo on them and making a "sandwich" of sorts. They also work really well for a mid morning snack w/ some cream cheese like others here have suggested. I've also done the spreadable laughing cow cheese wedges.

As others have said here though.. they are very "branny" and my DH thinks they are like bark.. but I really like it for a healthy crunch! Smile

I'm so glad to see you here, I've somehow missed you on here all this time. I can't believe it! Hope all is going well with you.

Do you know what happened to Sandi. Do you ever hear from her or know how to get in touch with her?
I get my GG bran crisp bread at my local natural grocery store....in fact got to put that on my shopping list.
I love these topped with egg salad or natural unsweetened PB. They are a bit dry but full of fiber. I used to get them at Whole Foods, but now order them from Netrition. Smile
I discovered this website a month or so ago. Glad to have found it and nice to meet y'all.

This thread interested me alot and I've only been LCing for 3 months. I always had the problem with hunger before bedtime - and I was looking for a good fiber solution - and I have found it.

I really like this crisp bread. I have it almost every evening with a small amount of cottage cheese.

I happen to have googled it and discovered it here:
http://www.locarbdiner.com/

for $2.55........This Lo Carb Diner is a wonderful supplier of so many Lo Carb and Diabetic discoveries - that I never knew existed. It's worth the visit. I'll go back again to order more items in addition to the crisp bread.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving......and I'll see you soon.
