This is a thread that I am starting for all those (including myself) who know (or feel) that they may have some food sensitivities but find themselves gravitating towards their problem foods, craving them even though the very foods may make them bloated, feel sick, gain weight, keep them from losing weight, cause sinus issues, gastrointestinal issues, mood or thought issues, etc, etc...
It will last 30 days. Let's see if we can clear up some issues! If your not sure what your food issues may be, then join in and we can see if we can root out some problem foods.

What you can do is state any food sensitivities that you know of, or any that you think that you have. If you have no idea you can try a pulse test (simple at-home test) that you can do after you eat and then try to locate specifics.

Whether or not I will get some people to join me on my dietary adventure I do not know, however I DO believe that I need to do this, to keep as healthy as possible and to get my weight down a bit further. It's NOT going to be easy, this I know, because the very foods that cause me problems are, should I say... morbidly interesting to me when I am exposed to them.
Food Sensitivities:
Dairy excluding Butter and Raw Dairy
Nuts
Legumes
Artificial Sweeteners (all of 'em)
Grains excluding Rice
Processed Meats
Soy excluding Fermented
Cream of Tartar
I really needed this thread. I ate trash all weekend because of a anniversary, and gained 8 lbs in three days. That's alright though, as I KNOW that it's all water (except maybe, a half lb or so) because I was SOO thirsty (sign of heavy duty food sensitivity that was heavily indulged in) and yet even though I drank like a thirsty camel, I barely needed to use the bathroom. Can you say major water retention? In about 24 hours I've already dropped 4 lbs exactly, according to Digi.
I am still peeing like crazy even though I am not drinking THAT much water.

Anyhow, this is what I ate today. I did not get the quantities because i didn't realize that I would be posting them, but ate least I remember exactly WHAT I ate.

Hard Boiled Eggs
Homemade Chicken Soup (simmered the sucker for a full day) with some carrots celery garlic onions and ginger
Celtic Sea Salt
Licorice Root and other various herbs as a tea
Wild Blueberries
Raw Ginger slices soaked in liquid Stevia
Raw Goat's Milk
Raw Unsweetened Cocoa pieces
Raw Cheese with Butter slices
Wishing you all the best with this! I struggled with it when I first started low-carbing and found out I was sensitive to gluten, soy and cow dairy (still up in the air with that one). And of course, they tend to be the foods you want most! The cravings I had for starchy foods (crackers, bread etc) and the amounts of it I could eat were astonishing. When they went away, I couldn't believe my 'new normal'.

What symptoms/reactions do you have? I get GI ones from gluten (lots from gluten, actually, it's my biggie) but more just bloating from the others. Cow dairy makes me break out - I'll get a huge zit in the middle of my chest! I call it my dairy button.
wow another soy allergic person. I can't believe the stuff that has soy in it now in the store. Having that allergy help make me a better atkinseer cause only the whole natural foods stuff is soy free.

I discioverd during Atkins induction it was more the not being able to have something that caused me to want it. I stopped my extened induction after 6 and 1/2 months and moved to OWL cause I wanted low carb bread and needed to be on rung 9 to have it cause I couldn't eat the soy based ones. Folk who know me have heard this before, but I got 6 loaves of low carb bread for Christmas that yr cause that was what I ask for and I only ate 1/2 a loaf and then they sat there for yrs untouched in the freezer cause when I could have it I no longer wanted it.

I wish you much success staying clear of your food allergies.

and what is raw cheese?
waywardsister: LOL, I laughed SOOOO hard when I read about the dairy button! That is so cute (I know, I know, it's not cute at the time it happens, Wink )

With dairy I get sinus problems where my nose gets really stuffy, ESPECIALLY at night when I sleep (I keep asking my husband if he will switch sides with me so that I can snuggle up to him without feeling like the 'pillow side' of my face is going to explode from pressure Tongue . I also get mood swings and cravings like you wouldn't believe. I also cannot take a number 2 for days if not longer. The funny thing is I never thought that it was DAIRY until I started rotating foods and doing a home pulse test after I ate!

Wow, maybe it's the gluten for me as well, since wheat is loaded and that is my BIG grain problem (good thing that there is not much of that on a lc diet!) I get the same problems, my gut is SO bloated and hurts SO bad that all I can do to keep from being blinded by the pain of it is to lie down eith on the couch or in bed. I can get away with small amounts, but they still make me feel lousy mentally and physically.
Nuts make my comfortable sized pants feel WAY too small for a few days because of bloat so bad it makes me waddle like a duck lol. They also put my anxiety through the roof, and yes, make me crave like there is no tomorrow. Peanuts too.

When I eat beans I feel lethargic and crappy in general and I can't do a number 2, soy does the same thing (maybe because it's a bean?)

I really think that the artificial sweeteners are the ultimate nightmare for me though. When I eat or drink them my sanity and strength go right out the window. I want to kill myself, barely even am aware of what's going on around me or even of my existance, I have no energy and am very weak (can barely even get out of bed to use the bathroom), get headaches, crave so bad it hurts, and even if I am doing barely any carbs and am burning nearly black on the ketone sticks, the stuff will throw me out of ketosis so fast I don't know what hit me. Really weird and really unpleasant.

2big4mysize: I can hear you on the whole foods thing, that's for sure. It gives us more incentive to eat healthier whole foods, but at the same time (I don't know about you) it drives me NUTS if I want to eat out anywhere or pick up a quick bite to eat. As if finding low-carb friendly places wasn't bad enough Wink That's funny about your bread in the freezer! Are they still there???
I was eating 'bad' foods once a week but it still sent me reeling for several days afterwards. I want to hold out for at least a month.
Thanks for the best wishes as well.

Raw Cheese is cheese made with unpasteurized milk. I can definately handle raw milk and raw yogurt (actually notice a BENEFIT in that I feel better), the cheese I have not figured out yet as I just tried adding it back. If I begin to notice a problem, out it goes!
thanks I'd never heard the experssion raw cheese. The bread was still there this summer but I let Mother use it to feed the geese at the park one days since i knew I was never going to eat it.

Yep eating out is a pain cause you got to check even the seasoning mixes. I was so glad when McDonalds took the soy of of their grill seasoning so if I needed to I could grab a burger out. it is next to impossible to get a steak out without the seasoniung mixes containing soy unless you got to one of those that cuts the raw beef at your table to the thickness you want and if I'm going to that much trouble I'd rather grill my own.

But the nice thing is as allergic as I am I have to stay way from it. Maybe if your symptoms were worse it would be easier to avoid. I can't do a day of eating and then go back cause the allergic reaction is intense and lasts days. And soy is is in all the frankenfoods too. Smile
